Dear Ms. Shea,
The Southeastern Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (SCADD) is a multifaceted private
nonprofit 501©(3) drug and alcohol treatment program located in Southeastern Connecticut. We are funded
principally by the State of Connecticut and the local United Way. We are a community based, 12 step oriented
organization whose mission is to assist those who suffer from the disease of addiction learn to live as sober,
productive and contributing members of society. Our clients are not movie stars or famous people. Typically,
they have exhausted all of their resources, both social and financial. Often we are their last hope.
Our programs include detoxification, residential treatment and outpatient services. Our detoxification
facility is a 20 bed operation located in New London. Our residential facilities include a 98 bed long term
treatment facility for men in Lebanon, 23 halfway house beds for men in Norwich and New London and 11
beds for women in New London. We also operate Outpatient offices in New London and Norwich. Together
our programs serve over 3000 individuals annually. Our focus is to provide substance abuse treatment to
individuals who may not be able to afford it otherwise.
We are currently seeking equipment that would allow us to improve the delivery of treatment services to
our clients. Specifically, we hope that you will consider a donation on any unused smart boards that may be
identified as surplus equipment looking for a good home. In today’s economic environment, with most of our
funding dependent on state government, it is especially challenging to incorporate technology upgrades that will
enhance the treatment experience. We are hopeful that you can help.
If the Town of Colchester could assist us in our endeavor we would certainly be appreciative of your
support. Please contact me (Stacey Lawton) at (860) 886-2495 ext 204 if I can be of further assistance or
provide any additional information that you may need in consideration of this request.
Thank you for your consideration.
