Dear Colchester BOE,

As the parent of 11th and 12th grade daughters, I was disappointed to hear schools are
closed for the remainder of the academic year. Given their grade levels, my daughters have
even more to lose than 3 months of classroom instruction. While the proms, grad party, and
graduation are not officially canceled, I am not optimistic given the Governor's executive orders.
I think an in-person graduation ceremony is possible but not likely. Any chance for the other
events ended when the plug was pulled on this school year. I am further discouraged when I
hear talk of half-days or every-other-day schedules in the fall. These would not be in the best
interest of our students.

My question is in regard to the school budget. The one small silver lining from the schools
being closed for 3 months is that there has to have been significant cost savings. Is there an
idea as to how much has and will be saved?

Thanks,

Les Bassett
