                                     In-School Suspension Coordinator
                                              Job Description



OVERVIEW
The In-School Suspension (ISS) Coordinator will work with students who have been removed
from the educational setting due to behavioral infractions. The coordinator will manage the
designated in-school suspension room and will facilitate student learning by collaborating with
classroom teachers to acquire work and resources students need to complete school work
while in ISS. The coordinator will serve as a mentor to these students in order to support the
reduction of future behavioral infractions while also serving as a positive role model.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
   ● Create an environment of student reflection and personal accountability.
   ● Uphold rigorous behavioral expectations and consistency of rules within the ISS room.
   ● Encourage positive school behavior and connections.
   ● Follow through on the implementation of school rules and expectations.
   ● Develop learning opportunities that improve student behavior and life choices to
      decrease repeat offenders.
   ● Mentor students and create strong working relationships.
   ● Facilitate academic work production.
   ● Support the school security officer and main office in the event there are no students
      assigned to ISS.
   ● When there are no students in ISS, other duties could include supervising a classroom,
      patrolling the hallways, helping with lunch duty supervision, or other tasks as assigned
      by office personnel.
   ● Help supervise morning traffic patterns as assigned by administration.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
   ● Effective oral & written communication skills
   ● Skills in relationship building with teenagers while maintaining a controlled environment
   ● Interpersonal skills
   ● Organizational skills

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
   ● Background checks (Criminal & DCF, including fingerprinting)

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
   ● Academic school year, as determined by the Board of Education calendar.
   ● Work day is defined as 7:15AM - 2:15PM
