Re: Inclement Weather Procedure for 2020-21
Recently the Connecticut State Board of Education provided guidance for districts that allows them to use
distance learning capabilities to hold a remote learning day in lieu of canceling school. In this situation all
students and instructional staff will remain home, instruction will take place remotely and the day will
count towards our 177 student days. As a result of this flexibility, the district’s inclement weather
procedures for this school year are as follows:
For the first two (2) inclement weather days schools will be closed as they have been
traditionally in the past and no instruction will take place on these two days. The days will be
made up by utilizing our built-in inclement weather days on February 16, March 15, or June 1.
If the first inclement weather day occurs after March 15, then only one (1) day will be a closure
to be made up on June 1.
For the third and any subsequent inclement weather days, students and instructional staff will
remain at home and instruction for all students will be shifted to a “remote learning day”.
If the third or any other subsequent inclement weather events should cause significant power
outages, schools will be closed and no instruction will take place. If no built-in inclement
weather days remain then these closures will be made up by adding school days to the end of
school year, as we have traditionally done in the past.
To facilitate the remote learning days all staff and students should be prepared by ensuring they have their
device with them at home.
