Updated Goals & Indicators as of 5/4/2021
Goal #1 The board is known for fostering and cultivating a welcoming, inclusive, and
equitable culture that promotes the overall well-being of our students, staff, caregivers, and
the community.
Indicators:
● The Board leads by example. The Board practices norms that are culturally
responsive. (Measurement Tools: Active listening/non-violent communication
etc.)
● The board will support the district, and board ad-hoc DEI committees and
thoughtfully consider their recommendations.
● The Board supports the social, emotional, mental, and physical well-being of
students in staff through high expectations and standards.
● The board will support the long-term district safety plan (camera’s, front desk
security, swipe system etc…) by ensuring funds are dedicated annually and the
protocols are current and relevant.
● The board will authentically engage parents in support of student success and
identify and eliminate barriers to engagement where possible.
● The board supports/values the benefit of extracurricular activities and their role
in student social/emotional learning, and encourages students to express ideas
and beliefs.
Goal #2 The Board is known for growing innovative thinkers by investing in student
achievement through dynamic and appropriately resourced instruction that maximizes the
individual potential of students.
Indicators:
● The Board supports the district’s mission statement and its focus on high
expectations for all students.
● The board promotes the use of challenging, rigorous instruction, that maximizes
time in the classroom.
● The board will ensure funds are dedicated to support the long-term technology
in order to support personal learning strategies.
● The board supports curricula that effectively prepares students for the
workforce/building industry connections, leveraging community partnerships.
● The board will ensure proper funding is in place to support staff development,
and encourages systems change where relevant.
● Based on administrative presentations and student data, the board continuously
evaluates and responds to the needs of our students.

● The board expects students to have ownership of their learning, and achieve an
optimal level of individual success.
● Through the budget process and creation of partnerships with local stakeholders,
the board will help students build on their own personal assets and
eliminate/mitigate barriers to student success.
Goal #3 The Board is known for effective reciprocal communication that builds connections
with the CPS community and promotes advocacy efforts at the local and state level.
Indicators:
● The Board coordinates regular communication on important events and
initiatives to the school community and the community at large.
● The Board ensures that communications occur in a timely manner clearly and
concisely about any major incident or issue involving Colchester Public Schools.
● The Board utilizes a variety of communication techniques to reach a broad
audience, including local newspapers, email updates, and social media as
appropriate.
● Each Board member actively participates in community events as representatives
of the district.
● The Board actively seeks out partnerships with community organizations when
such partnerships will enhance the district.
● The Board clearly and concisely communicates on how resources are utilized to
operate the schools.
Goal #4 The Board is known for purposefully aligning the needs of students with a fiscally
responsible, equitable, and transparent budget.
Indicators
● Board members review all district budget documents on a monthly basis to
ensure that they have a working knowledge and understanding of the budget.
● The Board aligns its goals and district goals with budget goals at the outset of the
budget process. The Board adopts budget priorities in October of each year to
guide the budget development.
● The Board regularly provides updates on the district budget to the community
and to Town Boards to ensure transparency.
● The Board adopts long-range budget planning for specific areas and as needed,
e.g., facilities, technology, staffing, and safety.
● The Board engages with stakeholders on the review and approval of the district
budget.
● The Board supports the appropriate allocation of funding for staff to properly
support the social, emotional, mental, and physical well-being of students.
