Code of Conduct
We carry out our respective roles with the highest levels of professionalism, honesty, and
integrity.
We promote ethical behavior in and out of the Boardroom as a model for the district and
community, and are careful with our actions and words.
We speak with one voice and provide full disclosure. Each member will provide input,
encouragement, express concerns, and positions rather than withhold information from others.
We strive to build trusting relationships with fellow board members, the Superintendent, staff,
and the community.
We will use positive communication and understand we serve as part of an educational team
with mutual respect, trust, civility and regard for each other's roles and responsibilities.
We will use positive communication when speaking about other board members and staff, and
treat each other and CPS staff with mutual respect, trust, and civility.
We will strive to represent common interests rather than factions. We will make decisions that
are best for students in ALL cases, and consider and decide all issues fairly and without bias.
We will hold confidential all matters pertaining to CPS that, if disclosed, might needlessly injure
individuals or the schools.
We will make the work of the Board a priority and be on time and prepared for meetings.
We recognize our responsibility is not to "run the schools," but to see that they are well-run
through effective policies and oversight.
We will abide by the principle of majority-rule.
We recognize that authority rests only with the whole board assembled in meeting, and will
make no personal promises nor take any private action which may compromise the Board.
We will utilize, and encourage others to utilize, the proper “chain of command” at all times.
