Dear Mr Peel & Colchester Board of Education,
The Career and Technical Education department is looking to dispose of the following items:
1. FCS Books
60 Copies of The Developing Child. These books are old editions and are no longer used. They
are between 12 and 18 years old.
2. TV in FCS kitchen
This item is no longer needed since teachers use a projector.
3. Pedestal Grinder in Auto Shop
This item has been broken & missing guards. Guards cannot be purchased since the grinder is
over 25 years old. The machine has been locked out and has not been used. We are proposing
to dispose of it due to its condition and it not being functional for student use.
4. Automotive Textbooks
• 13 copies of Small Gas Engines textbooks
• 9 copies of Automotive Excellence
These books are all over 15 years of age, are not a complete classroom set and are completely
out of date. They have been in storage for at least the past 15 years.
5. Wood Planer in Wood Shop
Our current wood planer is old and does not have modern safeties. As a result students have
not been utilizing this equipment and it is taking up space in our Wood Shop. Through a grant
we have acquired a new planer that is more efficient and has modern safety features that will
allow students to use it. We would be replacing the old planer with the new planer.
6. Delta Rockwell Drill Press in Manufacturing
This drill press is from the 1970’s. With grant funding we recently upgraded two of the drill
presses which have a lot more capabilities and capacity, in addition are much safer. As a result
we are recommending disposal of the drill press.
7. L-Tec Tig Welder in Manufacturing
This tig welder is approximately 25 years old. We have recently upgraded our welders and
continue to do so. The reason is that our students need to learn on modern and industry
standard equipment. The new welders take up far less space and are 3 in 1 units so that we can
have more kids welding and learning skills in the same area. We are recommending disposal so
that we can make space for new units, which are more user friendly for students to use and
have more capabilities.
All equipment that is in working order will be offered to the Town of Colchester to see if it’s
something that they can use.
