Superintendent Jeffrey Burt |
Colchester Public Schools
127 Norwich Avenue #202

Colchester. CT 06415

January 20, 2022
Dear Mr.Burt:
I am writing to inform you that J will be retiring from Bacon Academy effective January
23, 2023. It has been a difficult decision to come to, and I greatly appreciate the time I have

spent in the district.

In my 25 years in the Colchester public school system, beginning as a middle school
social studies teacher to the current position at Bacon Academy, I have been proud of the
integrity and success of the schools. 1 cherish my memories of being an educator, Student
Council advisor, Model UN Advisor, chaperone to various dances, school trips and proms and
more recently adjunct professor at Three Rivers Community College. I have been fortunate to be i
able to implement and write the curriculum for a variety of courses: World Cultures, Civics, the |
Regional History of Latin America and Africa, Contemporary Issues, and Geography.

The love for learning and wonder about the world was what drew me to the education

|

|
profession all those years ago. It has been truly rewarding to be able to bring what I learned |
from both my various travels around the world and my Fulbright-Hays scholarship in Africa to |
my classroom. In speaking with former students and Bacon alumni, it is clear that my tenure
here has helped to encourage them to explore the world from volunteering in an orphanage in.
Ghana to studying abroad in such places as Armenia, Costa Rica, China, Ecuador, India and |
Nepal. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work in Colchester and be a part of the
community.

Many exciting plans are awaiting me shortly, including vacations with my family and

homeschooling my grandson. Although I will miss the social studies department and the “Bacon

family,” I am excited about the quality time I will have to spend with my family. Again, thank

you for your care and concern.

Sincerely, -
oO
