From the Desk of the Superintendent…
Shortly after adopting our mission statement in 2019, “We create innovative thinkers for a
dynamic world,” we established several key concepts which were central to our vision for the
District:
● All students are able to think deeply and generate ideas and/or solutions in response to
challenging, authentic problems; and
● All students grow academically, socially, and emotionally because of a safe and
supportive community.
On October 12, 2021, the Board of Education endorsed a draft of the school year 2022-23
Budget Priorities. The focus of Strengthen, Grow, and Sustain, central to the budget priorities,
continues to advance our vision for the District. The 2022-2023 Budget Priorities are:
Strengthen
● Strengthen the District’s intervention program personnel, data support, and time
● Continue to be the pride of the community by leading the region in outstanding and
innovative instruction that engages students and the community as a whole
Grow
● Enhance the District’s capacity to address the social, emotional, and physical needs of
our students
● Build and create a funding plan for long-term facilities projects to address the significant
needs of district buildings
● Review and implement a human resources data management and work efficiencies plan
● Plan for end of grant funding for preschool and intervention personnel
● Plan for Education Cost Sharing funding reduction in the 2023-2024 budget
Sustain
● Continue to fund current intervention strategies, personnel, professional development,
and meeting time
● Continue to implement long-range and sustainable school safety and security plan with
additional needs identified in the capital improvement plan
● Continue to fund existing facility needs to ensure our buildings are appropriately
maintained
● Continue to fund the long-range and sustainable technology plan
Many of the priorities listed above have been funded through ESSER and ARPA funding and will
continue to be for the next two years. We will continue to provide updates on the budget process
over the coming months. The public can provide input at our regular meetings, budget
workshops, and through email at “budget@colchesterct.org”.
