RE:Retirement notification
Dear Colchester Board of Education and Dr. Thomas Mc Dowell,

This letter serves as a notification to inform you of my retirement date, which will be effective,
January 2, 2024.

At the end of this current 2022-23 school year | will have a total of 37.1 years as an educator in
the State of Connecticut, having completed 36 of those years within the Colchester School
District, and another 1.1 year elsewhere.

The reason for my mid-year departure is to establish my maximum benefit for the Teachers
Retirement Board, where | will be fully vested at 60, with 37.5 years of service as of January
2024.

| recall vividly in 1987 being escorted by Wally Harris, the principal at that time, to my classroom
where | taught grades 6-8. In 1999, | traveled from the middle to the high school for one year,
and then solely at Bacon Academy where | have been ever since.

| am grateful for the many good years in the Colchester system, so many awesome exchanges
with colleagues, and students. The Teacher of the Year accolade given to me in 2003, was an
added bonus.

| honestly cannot believe | am at this point in my life, as the years moved by so quickly, and |
can’t say | regret ever choosing this profession. My hope is that all the youngsters | have taught
will one day feel the same, and just maybe | gave them a bit of inspiration to see the importance
of becoming a visual communicator and how its value plays out in the game of life.

| understand that this letter of intent is required from the district prior to October 1, 2022, in order
to receive my accrued sick time stipend. | would appreciate confirmation of your acceptance of
my intention to retire, my entitlement of my accrued sick days stipend, and full person benefits
under my contract with the Colchester District School Board.

Thank you.
In solidarity,

Cabo
