            - we'll be immersed in culture in each location, from experiencing
            sumo wrestling to wearing kimonos to learning to make sushi

     experiences that provide for the study of the post ond its legacy.
          - we'll be immersed in history in each location, from the ancient
          capital of Kyoto to the modern capital Tokyo, and of course, Hiroshima

             - Japan is the world's 3rd largest economy and is known for

As we travel and experience Japan's history and culture, we will discuss the 3
compelling questions for the Japan unit in Asian Studies (and more, of

          to lack of space), Fuji-Hakone-lzu National Park & Owakudani Valley
          (geothermal activity/threats impact culture), Arashiyama Bamboo
          Forest & Nara excursion (appreciation of nature), cooking classes
          (environment impacts cuisine, obviously)
o How con Joponese culture be onologized by both the chrysanthemum
  ond the sword?
        o Relevant excursions: all Shinto shrines & Buddhist temples, sumo
          experience, tea ceremony, Tokyo National Museum (indigenous Ainu
          culture, samurai, etc.)
