Overview : This Form must be completed by all staff to request approval of a Field Trip
1. Complete the fo.m with all applicable documentation and submit to your Department Head (BA only) and yourAdministrator. The
Form must be submitted at least 2 weeks prior to the Field Trip for ln-State Trips and l0 weoks prior to the Fiold Trip for Out-of-State Trips.
2. lf approved by yourAdministrator, the form must be sent lo the Assistant Superintendeni for approval.
3. lfapproved by the Assistant Superintendont, the form will be sent to the Superintendent for approval.
4. lfthe Trip is Out-of-State, it will be broughl to the Board of Education at their next scheduled Meeting for approvaland fnaldecision.

Assessment of Student Learning
Biology students will investigate the evolutionary history of a specific classiflcation of organisms in the animal
kingdom found in the hall of biodiversity. Using the chosen group of organisms, students will identify examples
of natural selection that have taken place over time in this group of organisms.
Using the dioramas in the museum, students will observe evidence of the impact of abiotic factors on
adaptations of species and potential human influences in these ecosystems.
Back in the classroom, students will conduct research on how humans have impacted the ability of the chosen
organismal group to survive over time.
Students will develop possible solutions to reduce human impact on species survival and present these
solutions to their respective classes.
Physics students/STEM Club
Physics/STEM club students will have a unique real world connection to lessons about electromagnetic
radiation. ln The Eyes on the Universe exhibit students will take observations of images taken from the newest
space telescopes. These images are displayed in the highest resolution, featuring new discoveries made with
infrared cameras on the James Webb Telescope. Students will rank these images according to the photon
energy level of the radiation used.
Students will receive an extra ticket to attend a show at the Hayden Planetarium attached to the museum. This
year's show is "Encounters in the Milky Way" which will feature artistic visualizations of real astrophysical data.
The show will directly connect to standard PS24 as data from the merger of the Milky Way and a nearby dwarf
galaxy are visualized for the first time.
Students will get a chance to move throughout the museum before stopping at a featured exhibit "Cosmic
Splendor." Here students will view.jewelry inspired by the cosmos, highlighting STEAM and the connection
between art and science.
ln future STEM club meetings, students will use their learning to create a STEM lesson to bring to the Middle
School STEAM class. As we did last school year, the club will coordinate with the classroom teacher at WJ to
create an appropriately leveled lesson. This will provide an opportunity for leadership within the STEM club,
and provide STEM roll models for the middle school students.
Background and information on Silver Mill Student Travel
At the beginning of the school year I received a mailing from Silver Mill Student Travel with information
regarding a tnp to the Museum of Natural History in New York that included; round trip motor coach, admission
to the museum, admission to the Hayden Planetarium and a tour director all at the cost of $85 per person. Five
chaperones are included in the pricing assuming 51 students register for the trip
I spoke with the owner of the company, Josh by phone to verify the trip. The tour director handles all
communication with the bus/bus driver, museum for the tickets- allowing the chaperones to focus on the
students.
This is the same tnp I had planned in the spring ol 2O2O betorc the national lockdown due to the pandemic. I
had not had the opportunity to plan the trip again with all the logistics involved, particularly securing a coach
bus, however this organization has made the planning process quite simple.
