The state sets each student a one-year growth target on the Smarter Balanced English language arts test and reports the average percentage of that target achieved, grades 4–8. Each bar is that average for students who live in the town, —. A figure of 100 would mean every student reached an ambitious target. Sorted lowest to highest; rank 1 is the lowest figure.

A town's figure is the mean across its school types with a published value, weighted by resident enrollment in each; the table and tooltip name the school types behind every figure.

Every town with a published figure, ranked on reading growth, with math growth and its rank beside it and the school types each figure rests on.
Growth is the state's Average Percentage of Target Achieved: each student in grades 4–8 who was tested in consecutive years gets a target for the year based on their previous score, and the figure is the average share of that target the town's resident students reached, capped per student at 100%. The state publishes it by town of residence and school type; this page takes the mean of the published school-type figures, weighted by each type's resident enrollment, and lists the types behind every figure.
